United Stations of Europe celebrates 100 iconic stations across 30 countries, selected by railway experts and enthusiasts for their geographic importance and architectural significance. These stations are places of passage and of memory — places where the future of post-carbon travel is being written.
Europe is just a train ride away, and the journey begins at every station.
With nearly 230,000 km of tracks and 30,000 stations, Europe is home to the world’s densest and most interconnected rail network — a living infrastructure where tens of millions of people cross paths every day.
These stations are far more than simple transit points: they are cultural landmarks, witnesses to Europe’s rich and diverse heritage.
They are also vital gateways to a low-carbon future: for every percentage point of modal share shifted from carbon-based modes to rail, Europe avoids emitting over 7 million tons of CO₂ annually — equivalent to the yearly emissions of large cities or even small European countries!
At AREP, we are committed to enhancing this exceptional heritage. Through renovation, innovation, and sustainable design, we help transform stations into vibrant spaces that respond to the needs and challenges of tomorrow — climate change, inclusivity, and urban transition.
Founded in 1997, AREP Group brings together multiple fields of expertise: architecture (through AREP Architectes), urban planning, design, engineering, people flow modelling, project definition and management and design.
We offer a unique multidisciplinary approach to sustainable and inclusive mobility, powered by our exclusive EMC2B framework — integrating Energy, Materials, Carbon, Climate, and Biodiversity.
With more than 1,000 employees from 40 different nationalities, AREP Group is present in France, China, Vietnam, Switzerland and develops projects all across Europe and around the world. Of the 100 stations selected for United Stations of Europe, AREP Group contributed to the design, extension or renovation of 15.
